Not surprisingly, when you arrive at your hotel around 8am, your room is invariably not ready. And so we park our luggage and head out into a grey London day. Half the Tube railway lines are closed for works today, being Sunday, so we catch a bus down Oxford Street to Trafalgar Circus to start our tourist day.

And the drizzle starts too...

A gentle pace finds us wandering along Whitehall to Westminster Abbey and Big Ben (the former closed today to visitors unfortunately) then towards Victoria Station before a return bus to Paddington and a welcome rest in our comfy room.

After her day's work, Hilary joins us at 4.30 for a happy reunion, looking very settled and happy in her skin. We wander around the corner for a counter tea in a typical English pub... Old, steep stairs, fish and chips and the soccer on the widescreen TVs. Manchester and Arsenal tie 1:1 and the patrons cheer wildly when the equaliser is scored. A progressive dinner takes us to Westbourne to Nick's current branch of Byron Hamburgers and some dessert. We are becoming quite the experts with the Number 23 bus already.

But sleep beckons. By 9pm, we are home and in bed.
