This is the beginning of my travelogue for Honduras. I'm going to jump right in with new contact information, and a chance for you to let me know if you do not want to be included in my travelogue, for now (we all get too many emails as it is, so don't be afraid to tell me to drop your name if you'd rather not receive post notifications about this travelogue - I'll completely understand! - you can opt out any time you want, just let me know). And then, in future postings I'll back track to fill you in on the whole process and what might be of interest to you.

Here's Where My Story Begins

On January 24, 2006 a friend of mine told me about his daughter teaching in Honduras with a non-profit organization, BECA. He sent the BECA (Bilingual Education in Central America) Web site address to me and I looked them up. I was very interested and went ahead and submitted a letter of interest for the upcoming school year, 2006-07. To jump to the chase, and to keep this first entry short and sweet, I'm leaving for Honduras, to be the sixth grade teacher for eight beautiful children - four girls, four boys - at the San Jeronimo Bilingual School in Cofradia, Cortez, Honduras! I plan to leave sometime around the first of August and have made a one-year commitment.

Woo Hoo! Yes, I'm excited. And I'll talk more about that in future postings. Again, to keep this first entry shoooort, er... shrt, I just wanted to let you know of my very near future changes, the chance to opt out of the travelogue, and my new contact information, as follows:

Otherwise feel free to add comments to the travelogue entries or email me directly. I'm looking forward to this coming year of adventure, excitement, fear, and education - on my part. Please stay connected, if you'd like, and join me as I head to Honduras.

Sincerely,

Jonny Hondu

Hello, Jonny!
We got your message, but know nothing about Travelpod. Is this a method of communicating with you while you are in Honduras?

We like your picture and what you have written. We printed it off and have your addresses. Continue to keep us updated.

Love you,
Mom and Dad

Spanish!!!
Hi Jon!
This is so cool. Of course I want to be kept on to hear from you. Just wanted to let you know that in a feeble attempt recently to learn spanish, I bought a 4 CD set of 3 hours of instruction. It's called 'Learn in Your Car'. You're welcome to it if you want. Just let me know!
Renee

Jokes
Jon,
This inspires me to reinstate the joke of the week - so you can share it with your class & tell me how it translates in Spanish. I'll get a start and then see if I can remember to restart in Sept. Here goes:

Q: Why did the cookie visit the doctor?
A: He felt crummy.

It's a classic, isn't it?
Blessings,
Alan

Hola JB
Thanks for including me Jonny Hondu and I will look forward to reading your entries and being a part of your journey - although I may not respond to all of them, trust that I will enjoy reading them and keeping up on your adventures! Yee Haw! I love that you have started already since this is such a part of the process too!

Re: Hola JB
Thanks, Liz. It's good to hear from you. You don't need to respond to each posting. Only if you really want to! Yee Haw! pretty much sums it up! Ciao, Jon

Re: Jokes
Alan, I know I post this already, and then deleted it... I thought it might get sooo crowded!!! Now, I've decided I don't care! So, thanks, again, for the joke. I'll take any you can send my way. This would actually be good, I think, as we can discuss the difference between crummy and crumby, and abstract word plays. Muchas Gracias, Alan. Jon

Liz, It's just as exciting for me to get this message from you. I can't wait to see you in LESS THAN 1 week! I really do appreciate your support, and indeed hope to be a good teacher for these kids. Love, Tio Juan

Re: Go for it
Lu, thanks for your support! It was great seeing you at the party last Friday, at Liz's place. What a great party: Good food, excellent weather, and great friends! A special thanks to Liz. She really did it up. Are you doing the N.I.T.E. ride, Lu, or the RAIN ride this year? I'll be on the N.I.T.E. ride, but not the RAIN ride... Jon

Re: Spanish!!!
Rene, just wanted to add, 'Thanks for the Party' at Liz's place. What a beautiful evening!! And, thanks for YOUR Spanish, 'Te echaremos,' I think. And the pictures on the poster were so appropriate. Muchas Gracias, Rene. Juan
