After a quick conference responsibility, the three of us were off to do some final sight seeing in San Francisco, since Oakland doesn't offer much to see. So we made a short "to see" list and we were off. Traffic was pretty light on Memorial Day, so we scooted around pretty quickly. We saw city hall and a couple other downtown landmarks. We drove down Lombard Street (I did a great job driving the famous drastic down hill zig zag street). Then we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge in the sunshine (very cool) and spent a little time in Sausilito, the little town on the 'other' side of the bridge with great views.
Then it was off to Oakland. It was another cool night by the bay, and Erik was finally dressed for the weather. Yay! Erik thought McAfee Coliseum is a hole. There was literally some barbed wire as part of the entrance. It is one of the old circular stadiums that looks old and boring. I liked it, though, for the symmetry.
As for the game, the A's built a quick 5-0 lead on the Rangers and held on for the 5-3 win making home teams 6-1 on our watch. Sammy Sosa struck out as a pinch hitter, drawing great cheers from the 18K at the game (and me). Erik tried to explain baseball to Christiane... I think she would have enjoyed it better if it was warmer. [She went to see a friend in Seattle the next day and saw a Mariners game while there and reported that she liked it much better.]
