This morning we had breakfast at our hotel and listened to the hotel's orientation of Kauai.
We drove up north last night so decided to head south today. Jennifer Schielke (from Kauai) highly recommended Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park. It was amazing! It looked just like a green Grand Canyon. It's hard to believe that such an enormous canyon could fit on such a small island. After a couple lookout points into the canyon, we continued up the road along the ridge to Kokee. Unfortunately, we lost our race against the clouds and could not see much. I hear that it's beautiful though.
We had a Jeep so I was forced to drive off the road whenever possible. The rental car company strictly forbade it and Mariana hates it but I had a hell of great time!
Since we were on the south end of the island, I took Mariana to have lunch at Poipu Beach. We ate at Brenneke's, same place where we hung out a lot during Kara and Aaron's wedding week.
Right in front of Brenneke's is a nice lagoon and beach where we laid out and went snorkeling. We saw three Hawaiian Monk Seals on the beach and one huge turtle in the water.
We still had not yet adjusted to the six hour time difference. Our hotel is not within walking distance to any restaurants so we drove to Kapaa which was the closest town. We had dinner at Wahoo. The ahi poke was great! I also had a Corona to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
