Where I stayed
Airlines Hotel Mysore
We left Wayanad late morning and got a local bus to Mysore. The trip was fairly easy although we unexpectedly changed bus along the way... but fortunately the new conductor did not ask us to pay another fare on the second bus...maybe the fact that we slept along the way (or pretend to sleep in case of Jesmar) helped us!!
Our main purpose for visiting Mysore was that I (Mandy) had managed to get myself invited to an Hindu marriage - of Pooja, the sister of Arjun, who in turn works with Samantha our friend who lives in London! Yes we went to a wedding without actually knowing anyone :-> and obviously Jesmar was very much against it, but it turned out to be a very rich experience our hosts were very very welcoming.
The wedding gave me an excuse for some shopping!!! As soon as we arrived we went to order the traditional clothes - We got kameez and kutra, you can see them on the attached photos. I could have bought a sari instead but was unsure of it until I arrived at the wedding hall, but the kameez turned out to be a comfortable option. We also ended up buying new shoes, bangles, bindi (the red sticker for my forehead), fresh flowers to put in my hair, and a shawl for Jesmar, which we can later on use as a table cloth! Jesmar also went for a haircut for the occasion.
We were invited both to the morning ceremony, which is where the actual marriage takes place but is quite informal, starting with breakfast and ending with lunch. And in evening we went to the formal reception where the bride and groom stand on the stage and greet and get photos with the guests...(something which took around 3 hours) while the guest enjoy a standing up buffet outside. A bit similar to our weddings with the exception that no one got drunk since the bar served only mineral water!
We squeezed in a bit of sightseeing to the Palace while we were in Mysore, which was nice but....
