We met up with some friends in Poughkeepsie. It is known as "The Queen city of the Hudson". We went to the Prospect Hill Orchards, in Milton to pick the cherries. They offer the public cherries, apples, pears, peaches, nectarines and pumpkins in season. We had to take a hayride to the cherry orchard. A hayride is a tractor with a trailer. We collected a pail and off we went to pick our cherries. There were three different types of cherries. The one was a small bright red type, which was as sour as hell. Another, round in shape, yellow reddish in colour, this one is used for baking. The last, almost looked heart shape, deep read. This one was so fleshy and juicy sweet. Most of the cherries picked went into our tummies and the rest into a bag that we took home.
After the cherry picking we went off to visit the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park. It was the first home in Hyde Park to have electricity. The gardens and views were beautiful. It's a nice place to have a picnic, relax under the trees and read a book.
From all the walking we had worked up a good appetite. We tried out a Mexican place in Poughkeepsie called Mole Mole. The food was fantastic. Thereafter chilled and had drinks at our friends place. While sitting in their garden we saw some squirrels running around, their supposed pets called "Peter and Paul".
