One City Place

Wow, we have been here a week already. White Plains is a city that has a Performing Arts Theater, parks in between buildings for people to take their dogs, shopping malls that have almost every other shop you would need from clothes to electronics, grocery stores that are double size of the hyperama in Sandton City and even Starbucks Coffee. There are different types of grocery stores, Target and Wal*Mart is similar to the Pick 'n Pay or Hyperama - they don't sell much fresh foods. Whole Foods is like the Woolworths and has alot of all organic foods (check the bunch of tomatoes and the huge onion). Its amazing how the pre-packed food is, you get breakfasts on the go, snacks on the go, dinner packs - all frozen of course. The choices you have, wow - every flavour, in every type of grain - like pop tarts, there is a whole aisle (half the side of our aisle size) to choose from. There are a variety of restaurants. The food courts in the malls take the whole level and it can get quite confusing with the variety of choice. Most shops stay open until 22:00, which is absolutely fantastic.

It's impressive that the city council, takes cares of all types of disabilities, like all robots had audible sounds - so the frequency of the sounds changes as the time gets closer for the light to change.

White Plains is viewed as one of the most attractive and desirable cities in the state in which to live, work, shop and play.

We moved into our apartment at One City Place, last friday. We live on the 9th floor. It is a one bedroom, with walk in cupboards, a full bathroom with marble floors, open kitchen lounge with granite tops, all in beige white carpets. Our apartment is equipped with a fridge, stove and dishwasher. Going to take a while for me to fill that dishwasher... will have to get more crockery. In the sink we have garbage disposal, first time we getting to use this. B's new toy. There is a refuse shaft on every floor. In our apartment block we have great facilities, a gym, business centre with free coffee, lounge area, indoor pool, sauna, jacuzzi, 24/7 internet.

Apparently each apartment gets painted / carpets redone etc before the new tenants moves in, so its like brand new. We are very well situated. We are next to one of the Trump Towers. Just next door and a block away from us is a shopping mall. Across the road from us is another grocery store and a park at the end of our block called Tibbits Park. White Plains in blossom is beautiful and very colourful.

Last sunday while we were having lunch we heard the fire brigade, we looked out our window and there at Wal*Mart, the fire alarm was going off. Something must have happened, people were evacuating the store. The police and firemen were rushing in to check what the problem was. We didn't see any smoke. It was in a matter of minutes and the people were back to their shopping.
