We decided to miss the east coast just because of money issues but it turned out to be the best decision of the holiday. If we had gone down the coast there's no doubt we would of been stuck or evacuated because of hurricane Dean.
We traveled 12hours south west up into the mountains of Chapas to a town called San Christabel. Definitely one of the best places we've been to. The reason being is that surrounding the town are loads of little villages and all of the locals come to the town to sell hand crafts. All of the women are tiny, wearing traditional dress, carrying babies on their backs and other items on heads, over shoulders, or where ever they can fit.
The town is about 2200 m up so it was pretty nippy at night. We found a little place with a lovely roof garden so we ended up staying for about a week. The town itself was beautiful with small cobbled streets which winded and climbed the surrounding hill side.
