Today Jaramogi had to go to work, so we decided to visit the markets around Delhi on our own. Our first stop was Dilli Haat, an open air bazaar that was secluded in its own little area. We had to pay Rs.15 to enter, and once you left, you had to repay to get back in. Here we purchased several woven goods, like pashminas, pillow covers and a cute little hand bag. Again, we were in full haggle mode and were able to bargain down to about 60% off of asking price. As we saw in Agra, a lot of these trinkets were available in numerous booths, which put the odds of getting good prices in our favor. Some of the stuff was really beautiful, including a woven umbrella with elephants on it. Unfortunately, it was way to big to bring back on the plane so we were forced to leave without it.
The second market we visited ran along Janpath, one of the major streets that goes through Connaught Place. The stores here were less secluded and had more of a knick-knack feel. we picked up more souvenirs and began to make plans for lunch. Girdesh recommended a nice restaurant called the Lodi Garden Restaurant. The place was beautiful and had indoor and outdoor terrace seating. Our meal was quite tasty and the pricing very reasonable. Afterward we returned home for the evening.
