We left the west coast and traveled over to the east coast. The island is only about 80km long by about 35km wide, so although the roads can be windy and hilly, it doesn't take long to cover some ground. On the way to our next destination we stopped in Saint-Marie, where we nearly walked in to someone's house (as we thought it was a restaurant). In the local supermarket Nic asked why nobody was in the water (we certainly weren't going in anywhere without getting local knowledge, plus it looked rough) and the whole supermarket stopped and everyone said "no, no, no, it's not good, you mustn't swim!". OK, we get the message...
Tartane was a bit further south, still on the east coast, out on a penninsula. We got a great room with a view to the ocean in a hotel and chilled out for a few days. We had our first little sunbathe and swam this time in the Atlantic Ocean, although at one stage a bit of rain was falling, and a swim in some calmer water.
