After a 12 hour local bus journey from hell (the road was so bumpy and it was impossible to sleep) we arrived in Uyuni and began a 3 day tour of the Salt Flats. Seven of us set off into the distance crammed into a rickety old jeep (which was to be our home for the next 3 days) in the care of Sylvio our driver who claimed to be 21 but didnt look a day over 12!

First stop was the Salt Flats which were incredible to look at. The salt was blindingly white and covered the ground as far as you could see. We stopped and took numerous photos and then moved on to the Salt Hotel which was not the bright white palace that us girls were expecting, it was in fact a bog standard building made out of salt bricks. We were suitably unimpressed!! After numerous stops we reached our accomodation for the night, another very basic looking salt hotel!

Next morning we had an early start and made our way to the different coloued lagunas. There were bright blue, green and red lakes all of which were home to flamingoes. We spent most of the day driving round in the desert (when we weren't walking because the jeep had broken down!) and taking photos again. Tonight was a cold night and waking up at 5am in minus temperatures with no electricity was not the highlight of our trip! }

Day 3 we set off very early to look at the geysers which were bubbling mud and throwing out lots of steam before we moved on to the hot springs. The springs were very hot but it was only a little dip of the feet for us girls who were to cold to don our bikinis in the freezing cold! We passed more lagunas as we made our way back to Uyuni which was a 12 hour journey that included a flat tyre & running out of petrol!!

We are now back in La Paz and have finally had showers for the first time in days!! Planning to be in the jungle in the next few days after a welkl earned rest from travelling hundreds of miles in the last few days x x
