The day started out great with breakfast on the rooftop patio, overlooking the beautiful ocean. Off to the resort!!!

We met the resort rep at the airport and he quickly checked us in and brought us into the VIP waiting lounge...free buffet...nice! It was the easiest check in ever. We were only slightly disappointed when our flight was delayed 45 minutes...but we didn't mind so much since that meant we had time to finish watching the movie and eating more buffet in the lounge! haha. 11am our flight left....after they searched everyone's bags, looking for pork products or alcohol...and drugs of course...lol.

I don't even know how to explain the flight. I know that I've said this a few times, but this is definitely PARADISE!! To get to our resort, we had to fly over all of the other ones!! AMAZING! You could see some of the resorts from the plane...in the middle of nowhere. And all the coral reefs surrounding the islands...looked like a bunch of beautiful crop circles...but in the ocean! (Okay, that's a pretty bad description...just look at the pictures! lol.).

An hour later, we arrived...hopped on a speedboat and took another half hour boat ride to the resort! Welcomed with glasses of wine...or fruit juice...we took the wine...and greeted by a bunch of the most smiley staff ever!! Welcome to the Robinson Club....wait a minute...no one is speaking English...there's Chinese and German I think...but no English? We stood on the dock, enjoying our wine and spectacular view when finally someone came to introduce us to the resort...in English! Yay! Turns out that 50% of the guests are from Germany and the other 50% are from China, Korea, and Japan. So that means that...wait...where do we fit in?? HAHA. Turns out that we are the first Canadians to be on the island!! First North Americans actually...lol. An American lady who lives in Germany with her German husband showed up later in the week...but she doesn't count...since she's actually from Germany now...haha. Just call us Jay and Bri...discoverers of Paradise! lol.

Enough about the introductions...let's get into the resort itself! The Robinson Club...a German chain of resorts, usually only with Germans. This is the first one that has tried to obtain an international clientele. And what an amazing place! The staff is phenomenal...and the island...WOW! You can walk around the whole island in about half an hour...taking your time. The resort IS the island. We chose a Garden Bungalow...since we went the cheapest route..haha. It was the BEST choice...situated about 10 feet from the beach, we had our own patio and deck. We walked into the bungalow and stood in shock! They are HUGE!! The bed in one area, a separate living area with a sofa, DVD player, sound system, etc. Our bed was beautifully made up with flower petals and a welcome note. A gift was on the coffee table...Happy Honeymoon...a free bottle of champagne and some snacks with a fruit platter! Spectacular! The bathroom is an "open concept" with only a half roof. At first, we weren't sure how we would like this...but having a jacuzzi tub and a rain shower out in the open night sky is wonderful!! Absolutely no complaints!!

First day...on our way to dinner...and SNAP! Uh oh...Jay's flip flop broke!! So...now we're on a deserted island, nowhere to buy sandals...except the gift shop...and Jay's flip flop broke! He absolutely refused to spend $55 USD on a pair of foam flip flops at the gift shop...so...he went barefoot ALL week....to dinner...to the bar...everywhere! haha. Good thing the whole island is one big beach!

Our days were filled with spectacular food, amazing deserts, and lots of wine! We spent time walking around the island, sitting by the pool, swimming, playing pool in the beach lounge...never bored!!! The weather wasn't perfect for the whole week, but it worked out well for us! You definitely need two weeks though...to give you time to rent the glass canoes, go snorkeling, diving, kite surfing, etc....there's SO much to do. The house reef was stunning...about 10-15 feet from the shoreline and the reef drops off....we spent lots of time snorkeling! Not only is the variety of fish spectacular...but the amount and types of coral is phenomenal!! I thought it only existed in the movies or deep sea diving...this place is paradise! I'm scared of fish...so snorkeling is not usually too much fun...but this place is SO clear and clean and just plain awesome! I wasn't scared at all...once I convinced myself that the fish that insisted on swimming with me and right in front of my face were actually "protectors"...haha. I figured that as long as they were there, I was safe from sharks...but if they left me...then it was time to go back to shore...lol. It didn't work though!! I was swimming along, enjoying the reef...and suddenly...there it was!!! About 3 feet long...a reef shark!!! GULP!! I started swimming for Jay and pointing and speaking (which doesn't work too well with a snorkel on). Unfortunately, he missed the spectacle. The shark just swam right on by...WOW...what an awesome thing to see!....but that was pretty much the end of my snorkeling...haha. Jay went back in to try and find it...I waited on shore.

In the evenings, we enjoyed watching the Chameleons! Never before have I seen one...and there were tons of them right outside our bungalow. They are amazing creatures, changing color right in front of you! Like every other all inclusive resort, there was nightly entertainment to enjoy as well...with one night a week being a 5 course meal and gala style evening. FUN!

I almost forgot the SPA! The resort gives you a free 15 minute "welcome" massage...which in most cases lasts longer than 15 minutes...who can quit after 15 minutes??!! That's just crazy! So we booked extra. I tried the Reiki, since I'm not a big fan of massages...and Jay took a Hot Stone Massage. I have never been to a SPA that was as nice and comfortable and natural as this one!

We must leave for now...as one week in the Maldives tends to exceed a "backpacker's budget"!! haha....but WE WILL BE BACK!! Mexico has nothing on the Maldives....
