We couldn't remember when we checked in if the guy told us breakfast finished at 10 or 11am so to be sure we didn't miss it we were downstairs looking for the breakfast area a bit before 10. After one of the staff showed us where to go we got our breakfast of fresh mixed juice which was delicious, coffee which was gross, bread rolls with butter and jam and scrambled eggs. I had read in the reviews the breakfast was amazing but I was a little underwhelmed, Bobbie was even more disappointed after she asked for ketchup and got completely ignored. After breakfast we asked about catching the metro into the city center, the guy at front desk showed us on the map where to go and what tickets we need and off we went. We walked right along the main road until the spot on the map that he had marked. As usual traffic in Lima is hectic, horns blowing all over the place and all kind of craziness, trying to cross the roads is mad. We were looking for buses but couldn't see any other than the smaller dodgy looking mini buses that are packed with people. Until we looked down onto the highway below the main road and saw the bigger buses with their own lane. We went into the station and brought a card for 5soles and loaded it with 4soles like the guy at the hostel said too, we could both use the card with 2soles per person. We went down onto the platform to navigate what station we needed to go to and what train to catch. We thought central station would be the go and saw the express 5 was the one that would take us there with the least stops. The buses came every few minutes and we waited for the express 5 to turn up. Within 10 mins we were on a bus heading for the central station. It was probably 6 stops and 10 minutes drive, halfway through the bus got really packed, but it didn't take long and we all got off at central. Central station is right near a massive shopping mall, so we knew that's where we had to get back too. We spent the afternoon walking around the general area near the bus station and the shopping mall. We were looking for the historical center but couldn't find it. Instead choosing to walk around a few park areas with an Italian art museum which we went to and another bigger museum that had 3 different displays, 2 or artists who were Peruvian painters and one which was weird videos and pictures that just confused us, the sort of art that makes you think, what the? The park we walked through had potential to be really nice but a lot of the water features were empty and it was not well looked after. The Italian art museum was small but pretty good, we didn't see any really famous pieces of art but there was some good paintings. We walked past what must be the main courthouse in Lima and also had a look around the shopping mall. We had Popeyes for lunch which was pretty much KFC, it was ok but not great. Later in the afternoon we headed back on the metro and returned to our hostel for a while before heading out to dinner. For dinner we headed down to the restaurant strip and went to a pizza/Peruvian restaurant, we had a bottle of wine, I had filet mignon which was really just a steak with mushroom sauce and Bobbie had a seafood rice dish which was pretty different, she liked it. After our wine we had a few beers, we were watching an awkward date between two travelers, a very loudly spoken American girl and a softly spoken guy we couldn't tell where he was from because he couldn't get a word in anywhere while this ridiculously loud American girl talked about herself for the entire night. The things that entertain us. We didn't do much after we returned from dinner.
