The main reason I stopped in Torino was because of the Olympics. It is also close to Zurich, where my flight out of Europe was, and Monte Carlo too. I had planned on doing a day trip to Monte Carlo and Torino looked like a good base when I was looking at my map since I knew hotels in Monte Carlo would be ridiculously over-priced.

Due to my limited time left in Europe I didn't see Monte Carlo. The train schedule didn't work out exactly as I had hoped it would for a day trip, which was probably a good thing - for the casinos that is! I would have cleaned them dry with my amazing poker skills. A lot of Casino Royale was based on my poker techniques. I'm serious.

It looks like Visa covered the city very well with signs and stickers promoting Visa (and, also..the Olympics, I guess) but forgot to take them down when the games ended.

Just a quick stopover in Torino on my way to Zurich but the city center is very nice. Lots of great Piazzas to walk around in and get lost in. I was looking for BC-Canada House, which I had been told was still standing. When I asked at the tourist info center the two workers where in disagreement whether it was still standing. I would have thought a massive $6million dollar log house in the middle of a Torino piazza would have stood out in their minds in terms of if it was still there or not. One lady insisted that Casa Canada was still standing and gave me directions...but alas, it was not...at least not at the place she said it should be.

I bought new shoes while in Savona before starting the trip.  Almost three months later they where starting to fall apart and my feet where not enjoying their supposed comfort.  Luckily I found a small cobbler in Torino where they could repair the shoes.  Size fifteen shoes are not seen very often and the shoes got a few looks and comments from the shop owner and staff.  I believe they where admiring the size, not necessarily the style.  It was agreed that custom soles would have to be made since they didn't have anything that large.  They worked very quickly though, because early the next morning I had very comfortable custom soled shoes waiting for me...and happy feet.  All for only 18€ too.
