This has been the most uncomfortable overnight bus journey yet in Vietnam. Open Tour tickets are dirt cheap but you always end up paying in other ways. For instance, our bus is ram packed with people, including the whole aisle filled with Vietnamese passengers sleeping on the floor! There are two drivers on this bus; one of them is sleeping by my feet while the other is behind the wheel. Worryingly they like changing places while the bus is still moving! Add to this the frequent use of the deafening horn is ensuring that no one is getting a comfortable sleep.
No South East Asian bus journey is complete without incident, and tonight we managed to get a flat tyre. To their credit the drivers sorted it out without having to evacute the bus.
