If you want to get close to tigers in Thailand, a visit to Wat Pa Luangta Bua (aka Tiger Temple) is an incredible experience. This country used to have plenty of wild tigers in the jungle, and some rangers will tell you there are still a few not too far from Kanchanaburi (paw prints have been found near Erawan Falls NP).
A visit to Tiger Temple is probably about as close as most people are ever likely to get to big cats, which makes the 300B admission fee ripe for an increase. As popularity of this attraction spreads I doubt the current hands on interaction will be sustained. I could say a lot more about this visit, but the photographs speak volumes. Enjoy!
Top tip: if hanging around big cats is your sort of thing, and you're heading to Kanchanaburi, it's possible to arrange volunteering posts at Wat Pa Luangta Bua. Just email the staff (via the website) well in advance of your visit with dates of when you are available. They prefer volunteers to stay at least a week.
