Today I finally met up with Rachel, a friend I met in Leeds over a decade ago. It has been about seven years since we last saw each other. The last time we met was in Birmingham for some indoor rock climbing. But thanks to the wonders of email we have been able to keep in touch during the years.
It was odd meeting up again after such a long time. Although both of our lives have changed somewhat there was a comfortable familiarity, which I guess you never lose with good friends; no matter how much time has passed. Rachel and John (her husband) are in New Zealand for a week, visiting John's aunts and doing a little tour.
If someone back then at the climbing centre had asked me when and where I would see Rachel again, I would never have believed that so much time and distance would pass before the next rendezvous.
