After a hectic week in Chicago with my orchestra playing at the Midwest Clinic I am finally getting to rest a while in the snow covered landscapes of Canada. The fourteen hour drive up here yesterday was quite easy, sharing the driving with John and Elizabeth. I made one mistake when I first got behind the wheel when pulling out of the service station; forgetting to look for approaching traffic from the left first. Right hand drive, right hand drive, I had to keep saying to myself whenever I tried changing gear with my left hand. As we skirted around the Great Lakes travelling east through Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and finally up through New York state we were lucky not to get stuck in any heavy winter traffic. The roads were relatively clear and we had some good music to keep us entertained, as well as endless stories from John.

As soon as we crossed the border we had a mandatory stop at Tim Hortorns where I got my first taste of Timbits. Ever since Shannah first mentioned these back in Pai I had been curious as to what all the fuss was about. For those of you who may not know Timbits are like mini doughnut balls, and quite yummy.
