Arrived safe and sound last night in Borneo. The one hour flight over had some really good scenery, I especially liked the reflecting clouds. For those of you who don't know this massive island is divided up between two states of Malaysia (Sarawak and Sabah), Brunei and Indonesia. Not done that much today but have seen my first cat statue. This state capital city actually means 'cat' and they even have a cat museum! Surprisingly I have not seen one real kitty yet, but will keep my eyes peeled.
As far as backpacking goes Kuching has not really embraced the concept as well as places I have already visited in Peninsular Malaysia. Accommodation is more expensive here and facilities such as laundry service seem to be rather pricey too. There is a lack of 24 hour services, like internet cafes and supermarkets.
The climate is pretty similar to Penang but I have a feeling the further you get into the wilderness the more humid it becomes. It has rained a couple of times today but only for a short while. In the heat it always comes as a welcome relief and cools the air just a little. I think I am pretty used to the heat now and am needing less water than I used to when I first arrived in KL. It's going to be quite tough flying into Auckland in August and arriving in the middle of winter!
