I have just bought my ticket to the Cameron Highlands (RM13), so I shall be leaving Kuala Lumpur in the morning. From what people tell me the four hour bus journey is a little rough due to the mad drivers and very hilly terrain on the way. The Cameron Highlands is home to Malaysia's tea plantations and apparently brands like Lipton Tea use leaves from this region. The climate is cooler than KL due to the increased altitude so I am looking forward to hiring a bike to take in a bit of the countryside.

As you walk around KL you notice lots of people eating diced fruit, occasionally with powder sprinkled on it. At one of the fruit stalls I passed today I tried some diced Guava and asked what the powder was. "Plum Powder, sweet and sour" was the cheery response. It had a strange taste, from what I could gather a mixture of sugar and mixed spice. It did complement the Guava very well, and by the time I'd finished I really liked it. Its going to take a while before I try the other KL favourite - green mango with soya sauce!
