What a long bus ride that was!  It seemed forever, partly due to the fact that the seats were so small, and such a little distance between them.  We started late, and piddled along, it seemed.  Also, not having any scenery, except miles and miles of shrublike vegetation, did not help.  Not ANY animal life except a few nondescript birds.

Back to the Retiro, the bus station in BsAs.  The place is huge, but at least this time, I pretty well had everything under control, since I had been there before. It can be somewhat overwhelming.  I checked my luggage into a locker because I wasnŽt sure where I was going.  I had left luggage at South American Explorers club here almost 1 year ago, from my špast lifeš, and wanted to check it out.  I intended on taking my luggage back with me, but when I finally got to go thru my 2 suitcases, I decided I didnŽt want to take all of this back to Colorado, to my daughterŽs house.  I have been using my backpacks to travel with, and figured that I would continue this mode in Europe.  So, I upped another yearŽs dues to SAE, and left it there.  So, now I have 1 suitcase (summer clothes) in Lima, 2 suitcases in BsAs (winter, mostly) and my current travel luggage.  Phewww!  I think that this means IŽll be returning to S.A. in the future.  But, in any event, 60$ a year for SAE seems worth it for my storage.

I checked back into Sandanzas, and found that Debbie and her friend, Cheryl, was reserved for the next 4 nights.  So, since I had walked all over el centro, probably about 7-8 miles, I showered, and laid down to read the BsAs Herald, an English-written newspaper.  And, shortly, in came Debbie and Cheryl.  So, we gathered ourselves together, and went out to eat right down the street.  And it was a great place!  It was so nice to be with good friends again.  Too bad I only have a few days left!  We discussed what we wanted to do, and decided to spend the next two days sightseeing here in BsAs.

Cheryl wanted to see the pink house, the governor's  residence, so we took off down Defensa Street, and after about 1.5 miles, arrived at the Plaza, Cinco de Mayo.  We looked around here, then decided to take the subway to the barrio of Recoleta; so we tromped down the subte entrance, and  after some checking of the map, jumped onto the subway.  After reaching our stop, we decided it was time for a snack and beer.  Then, we took a cab to the cemetary.  We wandered onto the location where my tree is, it is the grandest tree I have seen outside of Sequoias in Calif.  After photo sessions, we entered into the cemetary, which is like a small town. filled with huge mausoleums.  Debbie wanted to find Eva Peron's grave, so we just followed the herd.

After looking around, we grabbed a taxi and returned to the hostel.  Later we returned to our restaurant for another great dinner.

The last full day for me was spent in LaBoca; we walked to the river walk from the hostel; about 3 miles I'd guess.  We stopped first at the Russian Orthodox church for a photo op.  La Boca is a famous barrio in BsAs where tourists flock to see the oddly painted buildings there.  It is filled with outdoor restaurants, many with stages with tango dancers for public consumption.  Cheryl, Debbie and I sat around drinking beer, watching a tango show, along with the other typical tourists.

Since this was my departure day, we took a cab back to the hostel, and I started my return trip to U.S.  I took a cab to the bus station to retrieve my luggage from the locker, then took a cab to the bus station, where I could take a bus for 40 pecos to the airport.  I arrived at the station just in the nick of time, and for the last time, bought a bus ticket, and loaded my backpacks on the bus.  The final journey to the airport!

I was about three hours early at the airport, and checked in showing my passport about 20 times, it seems.  After awhile, we boarded the plane, and off we flew!
