Where I stayed
Hotel Americana
Well, Debbie and I took the bus thru the Andes, yet 1 more time, but the trip was pleasant, and not too scarry! The environs are desolate, and look like we have landed on the moon! I had located a hostel in LP, we checked in, and were disappointed. After walking around for abit, we found a wonderful hotel, so switched! We had already paid, but we got our money back, and checked into the new one. Our new hotel had a balcony overlooking the street, we were on the 2nd floor, so every morning, early, I would take my coffee out there (yes, I still have my plastic kettle that I can heat my water in for instant coffee) and watch the town wake up.
Debbie and I headed to the beach, beautiful, wonderful Pacific breakers here! We stopped on the way back to the hotel and ate a "mariner's" pizza, with anchovies and everything! Was good, but a tad pricey! Well, it might have been the wine that helped in the price area!
Our room had a TV, the first in a long time.
We lulled around town, eating, beaching, drinking wine. We took a sidetrip to the Natl Park (Lagunas de Mejia) so we could see the wildlife and Flamigos! We walked many miles, at least 12-14, and we were two pooped viajeras by the time we returned to the hotel.
After a few days here, we caught a micro to get to Tacna, Peru. It was quite a chore! Finally, we arrived at Tacna, took a shared taxi to the frontera. It was quick stamping out of Peru, into Chili!
