Karlovy Vary, another little side trip.... Would you believe that it only cost us $25 USD round trip to go to this cute little town?! About 2 hours by bus, Karlovy Vary, is a well known spa town in the western part of Czech Republic.
One thing that can be said about the transit system in town is that its confusing! They have a pretty extensive bus system for such a small town, but hopping on the wrong bus can send you in the opposite direction and kill an hour of your day!
When we finally got to the area we were looking for, it was actually a great place.
Caryn had been looking for the "Grand Hotel Pupp" as featured in the Queen Latifa movie, Last Holiday. It was pretty much as you saw it in the movie, although the lobby was not the same. Not sure what lobby they used in the movie.
The main street is split by a stream running through the town, with countless shops and cafes either side. Caryn wanted a massage, but we couldn't really find anything worth the cost or that worked with our schedule.
One of the other interesting things about the town is the natural hot springs. In fact they have an entire "Gallerie" devoted to little water fountains dispensing this water. The first thing we noticed was that everyone was walking around with these little mugs with a built-in straw from the bottom... and yes they were drinking the hot water. We didn't join in.
As we later found out, the water is beleived to have nutrients and medicinal values in it, but apparently tastes pretty earthy. Glad we left that one alone!
That was pretty much our day in Karlovy Vary, a beautiful little town built into the mountain side.
