Driving down from Pondicherry to Kanchipuram, we came across a rock city where sculptures of statues are made here. The name of this place was Mamallapuuram. It was pretty exciting except the main attraction to the rock park entrance fee for tourist was RS250. So we decided to skip it and went about the local shop selling these miniature sculptures to have a closer look.
We were hassled by touts pestering us to buy their stuffs which cab be bought cheaper at the nearby shops. Meg bought those clolourful hanging thingies for her home while others got themselves some cheap bags and ear rings. I got myself a little sculptured seahorse and a shark both as accessories which is to be added to my bling-bling collection.
That afternoon, we went out for lunch in a classy restaurant. I had enough of local tea and coffee and instead opt for a Coke! We ate and went on the road again for our accomodation at the Jaybala International. There was a funky foul smell at the lobby, not sure where it comes from although there was a fancy restaurant attached to this hotel.
Died down for a few hours in our rooms and later we were out....shopping!!!!!!
This time it was sarees again. Pure silk sarees at the Sri Ganapathy. We were even invited to go see how a silk saree are made. So good of the owner to show us around. The presentation of the sarees were fantastic and selections are within our budget. I bought 3 sarees for mum and my sister while Meg & Perima bought sarees for themselves.
Funny thing was Meg had her eye on a black & orange saree but she didnt get it. That same night, Francis & I went back to the same saree place, bought the black & orange saree and surprised Meg. Her reaction to it...priceless!!!
