Day 36: We woke up in Wanaka feeling quite refreshed after a real bed and a nice shower. We happened to be there in the time between winter skiing and summer boating, so the town was fairly quiet for a tourist town. On the way out we stopped at Puzzling World. If you like puzzles that test your brain, this is the place for you. There is a giant maze that takes between an hour and an hour and a half to solve. It started out as just a nice diversion, but it ended up being a big competition. It was down to how to find the way back out after finding everything else, and Adam beat the team of Jen S. and Janell by a minute or so with Jason another minute behind. So much for a friendly day at the maze. There were some cool illusion rooms, but you'll have to look at the pictures to really appreciate it.

We ended the day in tiny Franz Joseph. For a small town, it had a pretty good nightlife!

Day 37: For the second time we split into two groups, with Jen S., Jen M., Chris, and Adam taking a helicoptor ride for some white-water rafting while Charles, Jason, and Janell went to check out the Franz Joseph Glacier. There are two glaciers on the south island (the other being Fox Glacier) that are quite unusual since they are not in an alpine region. It was pretty cool, but once again, hard to describe without pictures. As for the rafting, it was on a river where only about 100 rafting trips have been taken so far.

We piled in the van and headed back to Christchurch after all the daily activities were over.
