A stupidly early start today, with 6.45am up, 7.15am bags out and departure at  8.30am...how long does it take to eat breakfast? So after breakfast of buffet stuff we went back to the room to kill time and played Phase 10. We hopped on the bus and got a "bonus" tour of Newcastle which wasn't terribly stimulating..but yeah..
So we travelled for a little bit and it wasn't long before we were at the border of Scotland called Carter Bar. The weather was crappy and it was raining and windy, but we ran out took a photos and ran back to the bus with wet feet and clothes. A short drive and we were in our first Scottish town of Jedburgh. There was really big signs saying the whole town was Wifi-ed up and since it was still raining, Dan and I sat on the bus looking for accommodation when we get back to London and staying dry..the others ran out in the rain and looked at Charity shops and various other city things. I am sure we should have gone out, but it was nice just to sit and not be wet!
Our lunch stop was 20 mins up the road at Melrose, by the time we got there it wasn't raining, so we looked at the Abbey, looked for food and ended up at an Organic shop. We had ham, leek and cheese soup with a Hamburger and a Caramel slice for me, a Vanilla slice for Dan. So a 3 course meal for under $4.05 pounds each :) We sat in the main town courtyard, went to the book store and wandered around not doing anything in particular then went back to the bus.
It was an hour or so to Edinburgh, so I had a nap on the bus and Dan tried to sleep. Before long we were at the hotel, it was around 3pm...and we had a good room with a flat screen tv and free wi fi..yay. We were back out on the bus for our excursion to the Royal Yacht Britannia and dinner. The Royal Yacht Britannia was the decommissioned boat of the Royals..Diana and Charles honeymooned on it etc.  It was a nice yacht, not as flashy as I thought the Royals would be but comfy and understated elegance. It took around an hour to wander through all the decks and resist the Westie fluffy dog in the gift shop before we were back on the bus to go to dinner by 5.55pm.
Dinner was at Malmaison, a 3 course meal of our choice. Dan and I chose Pate for entree which was very nice, Mains was chicken with mash and baby carrots...again good..and dessert- Dan had bread and butter pudding, I had chocolate mousse and both were divine. If felt really late but it was only 8.30pm by the time we got back to the hotel. I started sorting some photos to upload, Dan watched Independance Day and avoided doing washing. We have a big day out in Edinburgh tomorrow and it should be fun! :)
