The last couple of days we have relaxed with long walks around the bay beaches and today we took a trip into Virginia Beach itself.  Virginia Beach is a resort city with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants along its oceanfront. It does remind us of Surfers Paradise but it is not as hectic now that summer break is over. The city is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the longest pleasure beach in the world.

We parked at the Visitors Centre and went for a stroll around the shopping precinct. We stopped at Dolce Vita for a coffee then found a shop nearby that was of interest to both of us. It had a range of Kittyhawk Kites, beach attire and clothing by "Life is Good".

We had lunch in the Visitors Centre car-park in the motorhome while watching the Navy Hornets returning to base. Oceana Naval Air Station is the sole East Coast Master Jet Base and is home to seventeen strike fighter squadrons of F/A -18 Hornets and Super Hornets. Brought back some memories.

After lunch we made our way down to the beach for a swim. There was a lot of people sunbaking on the beach, but not many swimming. The water was a pleasant temperature and had small waves that we could catch.

Whilst sunbaking on the beach we could hear a young girl shouting in the water. Initially we thought she was just playing with her father. When he started waving his hands we realised they were in trouble. Allan and another person, who we later learned was a Paramedic, raced into the water. Both the father and daughter were caught in a rip. Allan swum out and grabbed the girl off the father and swam back to shore with her whilst the paramedic brought in the father. Both were a little shaken but otherwise unhurt.

Tomorrow we plan to revisit the beach for another swim but hopefully there will be no more rescues.

The beach looks good, congrats Allan for helping the girl caught in a rip, lucky you were there at that time. Still busy with visitors and still very dry, hard to keep the gardens looking good. hope you are enjoying every day. Love Mum.
