Monday, September 19th

From the winery we headed to Smugglers Notch. As we were approaching the notch coming down 108, we saw our favorite sign – "RV's and Trucks not recommended". So what did we do, you ask? We continued on anyway and it turned out to not be an issue. There were some areas that were tight for two cars pass, let alone an RV and a car, but there wasn't much traffic through the notch today.  We just drove through today and headed down to the Smuggler Notch State Park Campground.  We got settled in and had some lunch then headed out on a hike to Bingham Falls.  Again, this park is great cause they love dogs and the Nashinator can come with us, so he is loving NH and VT.  The falls weren’t too far away from the campground, maybe a mile.  It was pretty wet/swampy to get there at times, but overall a pretty easy hike there.  The falls were pretty, nothing too big, but were very serene.  We followed the river downstream to see all the different falls.  They began with some small falls, and gradually getting larger with the final fall being a 25’ fall.  Then we hiked back up, which was harder than the hike down because it was up a hill with stone steps.  It def got us sweating.  We got back to the RV and got some food out for dinner.  We planned on having a fire tonight, so mountain pies for dinner.  I have also been craving baked pineapple for a while, so I made a pan of that as well to go with mountain pies.  Before it got dark we started the fire and cooked up the pies while we could still see. After it got dark and we ran out of wood, we headed to bed. We are planning on getting up really early tomorrow to try to hike out to a pond at sunrise.

Tuesday, September 20th Smugglers Notch, VT

We planned on getting up early and doing a hike out to a pond at sunrise.  Jared checked the weather last night and it wasn’t supposed to start raining until around 8am so we figured that we would miss the rain on our hike.  Mother Nature had different plans though and it was pouring from 5am on.  So we decided to sleep in until 8am and then head out to crawl around in the caves at Smugglers Notch instead of doing a long hike in the rain.  We made our way up the road, passing again the sign that recommended buses, trucks and RVs not to go further, until we got to the Caves.  There was an unmanned ranger station that really didn't have much info, and our map just had a big X off this parking lot for the caves.  So there were a few different trails we guessed at 2 and neither of them seemed to lead anywhere, so we tried the third option, and it was a success.  At least we think we found the caves, haha.  We climbed around the big rocks and into the "caves".  Nash was again with us and apparently is a rock climbing dog.  He was having a blast as well.  Even though it was raining on us, we kept dry enough with our raincoats and being in the caves.  We had our fun and headed back to the RV to head to Waterbury, VT for some touristy things.
