Friday, September 9th

We intended to wake up early today to continue north up the Maine coast, but neither of us set an alarm, so we had another nice sleep in day.  We got moving and packed everything up and left Bar Harbor.  We made a quick stop at the Walmart to stock up on some grocery items we depleted and then were on our way again.  We headed north on US 1 most of the way (which is called "Maine's Big Sur").  It was pretty, but having driven the real “Big Sur” in California, it didn’t quite compare.  Still it was a fun drive up the coast through the little towns.  We followed the St. Croix river, which is the US/Canadian border until we reached Robbinston, ME.  It was an arbitrary location to stop, there was a campground that was cheap there, and it wasn’t far off US 1.  It was just down the road from Calais, which is a major border crossing point supposedly.  This was our last stop in Downeast Maine.  Tomorrow we are planning on getting up early and driving the rest of the way to Baxter State Park near Millinocket, ME.  Mr. Dorr suggested this place and mentioned it as a good Moose spotting location (Let’s hope that is true).
