Friday, September 2nd

We got up this morning, ate breakfast, and headed out on the road for Portland, ME. We stopped at an information center to get some maps of Portland and asked the lady at the desk if there was a place we could park the RV.  She informed us that we would be able to park at the other Visitor's Center in downtown Portland.  This was excellent since the Visitor’s Center we parked at was pretty close to everything that we wanted to do.  We parked the RV and headed up the street to Shipyard Brewery.  We decided that we would do a tour and tasting there.  We had to wait about 20 minutes for the tour so we spent that time checking out the gift shop.  We got a pretty cool bottle opener magnet and these great things that can be put around drinks and used to keep your drinks from slipping off of tables.  We got 4 so that we could use them in the RV for the table in the back.  The tour consisted of a movie about the brewery and then they showed us the bottling line.  We haven’t seen a bottling line on any of our other tours so that was fun to see.  Then we headed in to the bar room for our tasting.  We definitely all liked the Pumpkin Head the best, which tasted like pumpkin pie.  She told us about the Smashing Pumpkin they have, which tastes more like pumpkin spice than pie.  Jared decided he would probably like that one better, so he decided he would buy a bottle of it.  Jim wanted to try the stout which wasn’t on our tasting menu, so he figured he would buy a sixer of that.  We decided though that since we were going to walk around Portland for a while we would head back to Shipyard to buy the beers before we headed out.

When we finished up at Shipyard we headed to Sebago Brewing to have lunch and try some of their beers.  Jared, Jim and I each got the sampling flights they had with 5 different beers.  Our lunches and beers were good.  I ended up getting the octoberfest burger which was a special for the day.  The burger was marinated in octoberfest beer, topped with spicy mustard, sauerkraut, and swiss cheese.  It was delicious and definitely a great choice.

After lunch we walked around Portland heading in and out of all the shops.  There were a ton of stores so we definitely had a lot to look out.  We found a great store that had really cute sun dresses on sale.  I ended up buying two and Sharon bought one.  It was fun to get some new clothes. I haven’t been clothes shopping in forever. They were such a great deal though that we couldn’t pass them up.  When we finished up with the stores we wanted to see, we headed down to walk by the water and head back to the RV.  Jim and Jared headed up to Shipyard to buy the beers they wanted and we waited in the RV for them.  When they got back we headed out.
