Monday, June 13th

When we finished up at Ruby Beach we continued on 101 north, which brought us in to Forks, WA. Our books state that Forks is a quintessential Pacific Northwest logging town. For those of you that don't know Forks is also the setting of the Twilight books. The town seems to have fully embraced Twilight and the visitor’s center was decked out with all things Twilight. There is a logging museum right at the visitor’s center, but it was closed. We did check out a Twilight Tour bus that was pulled in the parking lot and we got a map from the woman in the visitor’s center for a Twilight self guided tour. I think I am right that they don’t do any of the filming for the movies in Forks and we did see when we were at the OFM in Astoria that they filmed parts of Twilight in Oregon. However, like I said Forks has fully embraced Twilight. Right outside the visitor’s center they have Bella’s truck and then the self guided tour takes you to Forks Outfitters, the Swan House (complete with a sign that says Home of the Swans), Forks Community Hospital (with a parking space for Dr. Cullen), Forks High School, City Hall/Police Station (there is a Twilight display in the lobby and the police cars parked out back), the Cullen’s House (this is actually Miller Tree B&B, but there is a sign next to the door with a message from Esme telling everyone what the Cullen family is doing), and last you can drive out of town and go to La Push (this is an actual beach and you do pass a sign that says Quileutes Tribal Land).

We really just drove by things and took a picture of Bella’s house and the Cullen’s house. We weren’t too impressed with the Cullen house. There also were different stores on the main street that sold everything Twilight. It was a fun little stop, but it definitely didn’t take long to do. We probably could have spent some time out at La Push, but you had to detour off of 101 and we decided not to.

You are correct, much of the Twilight saga was filmed in St. Helens, Oregon, northwest of Portland. Kara has a friend that lives there and that little town is very proud of its movie claim to fame ; )
