Where I stayed
Tahoe Valley Campground
We headed out from the KOA in Shingle Springs to talk to some park rangers about hiking into the Desolation Wilderness. We got to the ranger station only to find out that all the areas were still covered in snow. She said that we could snowshoe out, but we don't own any snowshoes so that wasn’t really a possibility. Since those plans got shot down we headed out to the RV to come up with some other plans.
Jared decided that maybe we should head to South Lake Tahoe for a night and then we could do the drive around the lake that is supposed to be scenic the next day. We picked out a campground from a California campground magazine we had and we headed on our way. We had to drive through some mountains to get there and saw another coyote on the side of the road.
We decided to stay at the Tahoe Valley Campground. After checking in we had a quick lunch and decided to bike 5 miles to the movies to go see the new Pirates movie. It was an aggressive bike ride because we didn’t have too much time until the movie started. We were both really sore from our hike in Yosemite yesterday too, so I informed Jared that this was the worst idea he has ever had. We did make it in time and got to see the pretty mountains the entire bike ride. We both enjoyed the movies but liked the other ones better than this one. It was still good though.
After the movie finished we went across the street to the grocery store to get some supplies and then decided to take the bus home. It was pretty cold by this point and we were both pretty much freezing by the time we got to the bus stop. At the bus stop we met some guy that works at the Hard Rock Cafe. He chatted with us for a while about how if we went to the casino later tonight we might be able to see a free concert. He said that Sammy Hagar's band Chickenfoot was in town for a concert and when they are in town he usually heads up late night to one of the casinos and plays a free concert. He said it wasn’t a definite but we might be able to catch him, Joe Satriani, Chad Smith, and Michael Anthony play for free. He also gave Jared a pretty cool Hard Rock pin. I think he was in love with Jared.
We got home from the bus ride, made some dinner and watched some movies that Jared picked out from Redbox. We got nice and cozy in the RV so we decided not to head back out for the casino
Tuesday, May 24th
We were originally going to head out today, but we decided to stick around for another night so we could do some laundry and clean up the RV some.
Before we got our laundry started we decided to go to Bert's Cafe for breakfast. Both of our meals were delicious. I got the Mexican omelet and Jared got Huevos Rancheros. It was a cool little place.
After getting back to the campground we started up our laundry. While I was waiting for the dryer to finish up in the laundry room I was on facebook and noticed that one of my friends from high school, Michelle Rann, lives in South Lake Tahoe. I haven’t talked to her probably since high school but I decided to hit her up on facebook to see if she would be around later tonight to hang out. I wrote her a message on her wall and inboxed her my cell phone number. Jared was like why didn’t you just inbox the whole message. I really don’t know why I did it that way, but it worked out. Apparently Michelle doesn’t go on facebook to much, but her cousin Jess (who also went to high school with us) saw my post on her wall and called up Michelle
Michelle came over to the campground around 5:30pm or so. We hung out at our site for a while catching up and then we headed out to a bar in at the airport called the Flight Deck. We met up with one of Michelle’s friends Russell and ran in to a woman that works at the campground we are staying at. She was so excited to see us and jumped up to give Jared and me each a hug. Luckily we caught her name when Michelle introduced herself. HAHA. We hung out at the Flight Deck for a couple of pitchers and then headed out to meet up with another of Michelle’s friends.
We headed to Riva and meet Michelle’s friend Chris there. We hung out for a drink there aka a 25 oz beer and then headed over to more of Michelle’s friends Ian and Abigail’s house. When we got there some other people were there too and we all just hung out drinking for a while. I don’t really know what anyone else did because Michelle and I talked the whole time. Jared made friends with the other people there and chatted it up with them. We ended up being out until like 2am and then Michelle took us back to the campground
We had a great night and I was really happy that I saw that Michelle lived there. She doesn’t have to work until 4pm tomorrow so she offered to take us out site seeing some.
Wednesday, May 25th
We slept in this morning and got up just in time to get our stuff together and head out of the campground at 11am checkout time. Michelle sent me her address so we headed over to her place. Nash met her dogs and ran around for a little bit with them and then three of us and Nash piled in to Michelle’s jeep to head out. We drove up and around Lake Tahoe to check out some great sights. It was absolutely gorgeous up there. It was pretty cold though the higher up in the mountains we went. It started to rain so we headed out from where we were to go check out another lake and pretty views. On the way there though Michelle got a call from her boss and they needed her to come in early to cover for someone. They had no one else that could do it and we told her to just go ahead. We went back to her place and picked up the RV.
After leaving Michelle’s house we headed to try to buy a magnet, so we went in some tourist shops. It was getting really cold by now and raining more. We found a magnet and then headed out of town to drive along the east coast of Lake Tahoe. On our drive it started to snow so it was pretty crazy. Michelle had suggested that we check out Virginia City in Nevada so we decided to head there.
