Monday, May 16th

We headed in to Lompoc and through it to get to the La Purisima Concepcion Mission.  This is on of the Spanish missions built when Spain was trying to convert the Native Americans in the area to Catholicism. This is not actually the original mission. The original mission was founded in 1787 and was ruined in an earthquake.  They decided to rebuild though on a new site. This new mission passed through various owners through the years and was finally donated in 1934 to the State of California. This is when a huge project started to reconstruct the mission in to what it is today.

We purchased a tour guide in the Visitor's Center and spent a good amount of time touring the grounds. It was pretty cool to see how they had everything set up and to see a full mission as it was rather than some of the other ones that have been renovated for the times.

After finishing up at the mission we continued on 1 N through some more towns to Morro Bay. Since today was Jared's day to drive I gave my mom a call as soon as she was home from work. She was delighted to hear that I didn't get a ticket yesterday and we were able to finish catching up.
