Saturday, April 23rd Happy Birthday Jared!!!

We took our time getting out today and had some breakfast sandwiches. Then Jared opened up his birthday presents. Jenny had sent his present with Bryant when we met him for the Phillies Spring Training and Jared's mom sent his present from them with the mail she sent with my parents. This is also where the previously mentioned leather jacket comes back in to play. Shannon wore it on the plane out of Philadelphia, but it is actually Jared’s birthday present from my parents. Besides almost losing Shannon’s wallet they were very concerned about losing Jared’s birthday present. As previously mentioned though all turned out with retrieving the items from the airport so Jared was able to get his present. I personally can’t wait to see dad, Philip, Jared, and Peter all in their leather jackets together.  Dad got one first, but then Philip started wearing it out so they bought him one for his birthday. We happened to be home when the purchasing of Philip’s jacket was happening. Jared really liked all the leather jackets we were checking out, so that made it a perfect birthday gift. I am not sure if Peter had mentioned that he would like a leather jacket as well for his birthday, but I am sure it will look fantastic on him. We decided that they all need matching patches now so they can be a biker gang. Of course Philip, Jared and Peter will also need to get bikes for the full effect.

After finishing up with presents we headed to Flagstaff, AZ.  This was a really cute little town that basically is a ski village. They are close to the San Francisco Peaks and the Ski Lodge Snowbowl. Apparently they just shut down the ski mountain last weekend. It was kind of chilly walking around town. We decided to eat lunch at Charley’s which is located in the Hotel Weatherford.  Shannon had a great time reading us the history of the hotel while we waited for our lunch to come. After lunch we walked around town to check out all the little shops. Dad was really on a mission to find a new band for his cowboy hat. They have all been really pricey everywhere that we looked, but luckily in a western wear store in Flagstaff dad found a horse hair one for only $10. It looks fantastic on his hat and on Shannon’s head. She decided to wear it the rest of the day and we referred to her as Smokeahontas for the rest of the day.  Apparently she has been called that before out at a bar. The pickup line did not work on her, but it did fully fit her look for the day. We also stopped in a smoke shop so dad could buy some cigars.  He bought Jared a special one for his birthday too. We stopped in the bar Altitudes for a drink and then headed on our way.

On the drive from Flagstaff to Sedona we drove down route 89A, which drives down through the Oak Creek Canyon.  It was a really beautiful drive down through the bottom of the canyon along the creek. This took us in to Sedona, which we continued past in to Jerome.
