Jared and I headed out from my parent's house just outside of Philadelphia on Tuesday, 14Dec2010. From there we drove to Shelton, CT to drop off our cat Tre at my sister Shannon's house. She will be taking care of Tre while we are on our travels. Tre did not enjoy the car ride at all. He finally setteled down about 2 hours in to the drive. All went well though and we made it without Tre having a heart attack. We stopped for a quick break at her house and then continued on our way.

We got to Hyannis around 5pm. The next scheduled ferry was at 8pm so we had some time to kill. While driving around Jared noticed a bowling alley, we figured lets play. It ended up being candlpin bowling. We bowled two games and of course I beat Jared both games. HAHA. After we were done we ate some food at a tappas place across the street and then headed to the ferry.

All was good on the ferry trip. We bought our laptop with us so we were able to watch a movie instantly from Netflix. Got to love free WiFi on the ferries. Jared's cousin Jimmy picked us up from the ferry and showed us a little bit of Nantucket on the way to their house.

Nantucket was a blast. It is the off season right now which was pretty cool to see a different side of the island. Jimmy works for a tree company that takes care of trees all over the island and his wife Jennie works for a landscaping company. Jennie had to work every day during the week, but luckily Jimmy was able to go in for a little while and then come home to hang out with us and show us around.

Jimmy took us all over the island showing us around. One of our favorite spots of course ended up being the brewery on the island Cisco Brewers. It was a really cool little bar with lots of different brews on tap and lots of good bar games. Many of the locals on the island stop by after working outside all day for a beer.

Some other interesting things we did on the island was to go to the Whaling Museum. It was all about the whaling industry that used to be on the island and since it is the Christmas season they had the Festival of the Trees going on. There was lots of cool things in the museum and some really neat decorated trees. We also checked out some of the shops that were still open around town. I spent a great day with Jennie finishing up Christmas shopping at the local shops while Jared and Jimmy did some scalloping in the bay. They caught a good amount so Jimmy made up some delicious fettucini alfredo and tossed the scallops in the sauce.

In addition to checking out the island all week we were able to help Jimmy and Jen with some projects around the house. They recently had their house jacked up, dug out and poured a new basement. Now are in the process of turning the former garage into a living room. So there was some insulating that needed to be done in the former garage and some cedar shingling on the siding outside. Jared and I are now expert shinglers. It is a really neat house and we look forward to heading back during the summer sometime to check out the "finished product".

On our last night in Nantucket it snowed which doesn't happen to often on the island. They had about 3-4 inches of snow in the morning when we woke up. We were worried that the ferry would be canceled but luckily the slow ferry was still running. We caught the noon ferry, it was a rocky ride. I thought I would get sick but Jared nicely brought me some chips and a sprite. So we made it back to Hyannis in tact and without getting sick. It was freezing and we had to clean off our car from all the snow. I got to hang out in the car though while Jared did the work. He is great.

Then we headed to CT again to see Shannon in action (athletic train) at the women's basketball game. She even had to go out on the court to check a girl from the other team. I took a sweet video. Luckily the other girl was fine so no worries. We spent the night at Shannon's to hang out with her some since we won't be seeing her for Christmas and to get in a little last minute time with Tre.

Tuesday we woke up early enough to have breakfast with Shannon before she headed to work and we headed out to drive back to Huntingdon. We were in Huntingdon through Christmas and are at my parent's house through the new year. We will be spending New Years in the Philly area and then officially heading out in our motorhome some time after the that.
