Well here we are at the end of another year. My third Chirstmas in Japan. It's amazing how time flies!
For the most part December was quite quiet. After coming back from Scotland and with Christmas looming, cash was tight. Generally Junya and I worked. However, there was my New Year holiday to look forward to. A week, well 10 days, paid holiday from work. What a nice way to wind down at the end of the year.
Thankfully, both Junya and I managed to have Christmas off this year. Luckily it fell on my regular day off. My day back, luckily, was the start of my companies holiday, so I managed to get two days extra and Christmas was a nice way to start if off.
Junya and I woke up on Christmas day and exchanged presents. I got a replacement for my wallet from Junya. The same Jean Paul Gaultier line as the one I lost. So it still matched my keyfob and card case. Such a poofy thing to care about, but hey! I also got a nice new watch. A Fossil watch. Now, I've actually never heard of Fossil before and when Junya asked me, his English had me a tad worried. As while I was opening my present, Junya asked me "do you know what fossil is?". I translated that to mean "do you know what A fossil is". Suddenly my fingers slowed on opening the present. Thinking that he got me some bone from a bygone era. As I fingered the paper slowly I tried to compose myself and prepare my best, faux, happy face in order not to offend Junya. All the time thinking "this is so over, if he's got me a bone, he obviously doesn't know me. You can imagine my surprise when I peeled back the paper to reveal a 1950's Christmas scene on a tin. I was perplexed as to why someone would stick a bone in a tin. When I removed the lid to reveal a beautiful cream leather watch, I was over the moon. It was so nice. Knowing that my relationship was intact i gave Junya his presents. A DVD and a couple of books. I was planning on giving him money towards his computer. However it has transpired that he no longer needs a J-computer.
Anyways, after presents we went off shopping and managed to find an over priced Turkey that would never have fitted into our Microwave, so a large chicken it was. Chicken in hand and an overpriced Cheesecake we headed home for Christmas dinner. It was really nice. First proper Christmas dinner in a good few years. Last year having ended up with tonsillitis and unable to enjoy my meal. The rest of the night we sat in and watched films and stuff. Nice and quiet and intimate Christmas.
The rest of my holiday I officially did nothing. Sat in and played Age of Empires and never set foot over the door for three days. Although on one day I went to Nikko with Nicole and Suliana. It was so sweet seeing Suliana in Nikko. Having been brought up in Australia Suliana had never seen snow in her life. However, we never went there for the snow. We went there for the beautiful temples and shrines. Nikko itself is just outside Tokyo, but the north side. Which meant that we had to get up around 6am to get to Nikko but it was certainly worth it to see traditional Japanese temples draped in snow. I'll try and upload some pics on here.
The next biggest event on my December calendar was hogmany. Now was planning on a big party, however in the end I ended up having only a few folk over. Although it was nice. After the bells and a few phone calls t Oz, NZ and Scotland I kilted up and we all headed over to the local shrine where I spent my first New Year in Japan. Back to the house and we ended up watching Rocky Horror! I ended up falling asleep, as usual, and spilling alcohol all over Junya, which meant he ended up in a rash. I found it a tad funny at the time, being drunk and all. It cleared up by morning, so he's OK now.
That's pretty much it.

So to everyone I wish you all a Happy New Year

A guid New Year and mony may ye see an lang may yer lum reek
