The market was close to the harbour and wound through the streets of the historic centre. A variety of fish and shellfish were on display, but what took our attention were the crabs. They had thick spiky shells and a high round body - not like the crabs we are used to. So we had to have some of those to try. Perfect for an entree and with salmon for the main course it should be delicious.
With this job done we wandered past vegetables and fruits, clothes and shoes, and a basket maker busy at his craft.
Picnic lunch was at Pointe L'Arcouest, where we could see many small islands out to sea. Also visible here was the larger Ile de Brehat, a popular destination for tourists.
There was enough time to look at Lezardrieux, an atractive little town with a flower-filled main street leading down to the church. Behind the church was a Calvary statue, and also a war memorial. Many of the war memorials here are quite graphic, showing a soldier in a pose displaying his suffering. It makes Australian memorials look quite clinical. The one we saw today was painted in colours as well, so quite memorable.
Once home we sat outside - only the second time since we have been here that we could do that. And then the crab had to be prepared. I was not involved in the job, but it took quite some work to get out the meat. Luckily the result was worth the effort.
