Well, what a day.  We were picked up from the hotel at 11.15 and taken to Henderson airport (just south of the city (30 minute drive), and put on a helicopter with 2 spaniards, 1 belgium chappy and us with our pilot, for the Grand Canyon.

Was edgy about the flight, which Malcy couldn't understand, given the rides we had done at Disneyland (which I agree doesn't make any sense, but that's women for you).

We took off in slightly breezy weather, with the first stop being the Hoover Dam.  The flight was wonderful,  We had the front seats all the way out there.  Heaps of desert.  It takes 4 hours to drive there - would never do it that way - helicopter is the only way to go (don't ask the cost!).

We were shown towns that were in the middle of absolutely nowhere - why people live there is anybody's guess!  Then went into the Canyon and flew in the west rim and landed down in the south rim of the canyon floor.  Was hot!  Apparently the temperatures can get right up there.  Stunning though.  Scrubby country and we were encouraged not to go far from the helicopter because of rattle snakes and other wildlife that bite.  Didn't see any (think Malc was slightly disappointed about that).  Had a snack down there and champagne, and were there for about 20 minutes.  Learned about the Indian tribe that "own" the canyon.  They have an approach similar to the Maoris with regard to land and protection.  They collect heaps of money from tourists going in there.  From the company that took us, they paid $2M royalties last year alone, and there are heaps of companies going there!!!

Anyway - wonderful trip - so thrilled we did it.

Came back to the hotel, found the swimming pool, and I spent the next 1.5 hours beside it and in it, just relaxing.  Then we got dressed up in our duds and walked (believe it or not 1.25 hours) to the other end of the strip, where our show was at.  It was being held at Treasure Island, and was a Cirque de Soleil show of "Mystere".  We were four rows from the front - although the theatre wasn't too large and you would have a good view anywhere.

Well what can we say - it was stunning!  It was funny, it was clever, costumes were brilliant, dance and gymnastic performances out of this world.  Brought tears to my eyes at one stage.  Wasn't sure what Malc was thinking, but he said at the end "well, I'm sorry, but we can't get a better day than this, can we".

From there, we walked back down the strip, had a wee gamble at the machines, and finally hit the hey about 1.30 pm, although couldn't sleep (coffee at 1.30 pm isn't a good idea, and I'm drinking it black over here).  So about 3.00 pm I think we both finally got off to sleep.

Had to be up and out of the hotel by 9.00 am (our self selected time), as we were heading to Salt Lake City - a 7 hour drive!
