Have stayed the past two nights at lucca. The most lovely bnb, massive rooms, built 1400 to 1700, art work everywhere and only ones here, cost 70per night, again who knows how many stairs but after first 2flights there is a lift so blessing with our bags. Claudio lent us his bikes so we did a leisurely ride around the top of the wall of approx 4/5ks then down to into the old city got lost again as all small alleys. Returned bikes out for drink then dinner. An amazing ride around the top of the wall, people walking, jogging and cycling. all hroigh the streets everyone only riding bikes, no cars allowed in most areas. its people, bikes, dogs and shops. Quietest night sleep timber beamed ceiling 10ft, terracotta tiled floor, shower has 7jets of water coming at you and to top it off king sized bed. This place is the best.
Off to Florence today on train, we saw duomo cathedral ....again roof stayed up... Then to gallery to see the nude man, David, no line up, we wondered if in the right place, was a line up near cathedral but unsure to see what. Went through market place selling leather, tourist stuff, leather leather leather, tourist stuff. We did feel overwhelmed in this city it all felt the same, do prefer the smaller places. Back on the night train to lucca and happy to be out of florence. We loved seeing David, amazing work n marble, went past Carrara where the marble was taken from the Mountain side on way from cinque terra, all we saw was white on mountain.
So lucca is a lovely city but time to move again, pisa then to siena tomorrow and hire a car for a few days from there we think. Tuscany feels like croatias istria area but bigger.
