Christmas day today!   It feels very strange having Xmas day in the sun again, especially with no family around and we're not swapping presents so that we don’t blow our budget.  It feels weird not having had a chance to do all the normal things you do around Christmas like putting up a tree, going shopping or looking forward to the Christmas break. After ten years of a winter Christmas being at the beach in plus 30 degrees is also very strange.

To celebrate the day, we booked in to have Christmas lunch with Victoria and TC at a very cool beach club called Beach Republic which is down the far end of Lamai Beach. The girls came and met us first at our hotel and we cracked open a bottle of bubbly that we managed to find in a local shop to start the day.   Wine here is ridiculously expensive and it’s mostly completely unknown brands.  The cheapest bottles of wine in even the cheapest restaurants are around £20, so we’re really missing drinking wine!  We decided we would treat ourselves today though.

Republic had a real Ibiza vibe about it with an awesome infinity pool and massive terrace around it with very cool sofas to lounge on.  For Xmas day they put on a special six course xmas lunch which included shrimp canapés and mulled wine, then lobster bisque or pear salad starters, roast Turkey or fish or Beef Wellington for the main course, Xmas pudding or chocolate fondant for dessert and then Xmas mince pies and coffee to finish.  We were totally stuffed by the end of it!

After lunch we spent the rest of the afternoon drinking wine, sitting around on a big sofa bed in the sun and swimming in the pool.  Then we walked back to our hotel along the beach and headed to a local beach bar which was showing Avatar on its big screen!  Although clearly a copied movie, the quality was pretty good, although we would definitely like to see it on a proper movie screen if we ever get the chance.

We wanted to skype both David and Helen’s Mum and Dad but the timing was all wrong with the time zones so we didn’t speak to any family on Xmas Day L.  We had a good day though and made the most of it here.
