This morning we headed over to nearby Railay beach. It's only a short 10 minute ride on a long tail boat. Railay is very famous for the high cliffs that surround it and it’s a top destination for rock climbers. The cliffs are spectacular, although we only saw a couple of climbers while we were there. It’s a beautiful beach and is very scenic although the sand is nowhere near as nice as the islands.
We sat on the beach till just before lunch then hired a kayak for an hour and took a paddle out around the rocks and islands nearby. The water here is very calm and it was great to paddle right up to the rocks that come straight out of the water then tower overhead for up to 50 or 100 metres.
We then headed back to Ao Nang and spent most of the afternoon relaxing back at the hotel. Even though we’ve been here for 2 weeks now, the middle of the afternoon is so hot that we can’t really handle being outside. Plus we’d already caught a bit of sun in the morning so we didn’t want to risk getting too burnt.
Helen went for another run this evening - no holding her back now and she’s even bought some proper running shorts.
We’re needing to watch the budget a bit, so tonight we ate at a popular local street stall. Although they’d run out of our first choices, we got a couple of very yummy curries and a main each plus rice cost us 130 baht - so less than £2.50. We think we need a bit more of this as although Thailand can be cheap, some things, especially day trips, are actually fairly expensive. The hotels are costing quite a bit too as it’s now peak season and so it’s the most expensive time of the year to be here.
