Today we're off diving. We’ve chosen a dive centre called Princess Divers as their staff seem nice and are understanding of Helen’s situation with the Padi qualification, plus they have their own dive boat. Our plan is to do a fun dive first just to get Helen feeling comfortable again underwater and then for the second dive she will complete the last element of the course that she needs to pass. Our dive guide/instructor is a Swedish guy called Mons.

We headed out early morning to a dive site just around the corner from Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Lei. Things started out fairly well with the instructor taking us through some basic underwater skills again and to get Helen used to breathing underwater again.  However unfortunately Helen then had trouble equalising her ears and seemed to get a reverse blockage of air or water in her right ear that was very painful underwater.  She tried a couple of times to clear it but her right ear was hurting quite a bit so she had to go back to the boat.  It was a pity as other than her ears, she was a bit more comfortable underwater than in Egypt, but she still needs a bit more time to get properly used to it. James continued the dive which was pretty good, seeing lots of tropical fish and coral but unfortunately he didn’t see any of the turtles that some of the other divers saw.

As Helen’s ears were still quite sore, she decided not to do the second dive so James just went on his own with Mons. So Helen still hasn't completed her course and we'll have to see if she can do it somewhere else on the trip.

James' dive was down to 18 metres although for most of the dive they were around 15m. It was a much interesting dive than the first one with towering walls covered in fish and big overhangs you could swim under.  He saw quite a large jelly fish and two big Moray Eels and probably the most exciting moment of the dive was seeing a Leopard Shark which was about 1.5 metres long.  Thankfully it was more interested in other things and ignored him!

We got back from the dive early afternoon and had a fairly relaxing time for the rest of the day before having a nice fish dinner in town.
