What I did
Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smokey Mountains

Flag of United States  , Tennessee
Thursday, May 29, 2014

Elevation gain: roughly 9,050 ft.
Morale at the start of the trip: Eager
Morale at the end of the trip: Deflated with a side of triumphant.
Miles ridden: 73
State lines crossed: 1

An error on the cue sheet - that I was responsible for - caused this treacherous day to look like a 48 miler-day. In fact, it was a 78 mile-day. We recognized the error after climbing the LONGEST, most BEAUTIFUL climbs I have ever experienced up the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was demoralizing to say the least, but most of our group faced the adversity with the attitude of "welp, it's gotta happen regardless." It sucked for sure. But the views were just astounding. The second and longest ascent up the Great Smokies led us directly to the Tenessee and North Carolina state line. From there into Gatlinburg was one nice looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong descent. Gatlinburg is also a carnival town, wtf, who decided that town should exist.

There were probably more insights to be gained from that ride day, but I need a moment to let that day pass because it was such an egregious error, I am still slightly ashamed about it. Hey, just bein' honest.
