Where I stayed
I took myself up to bed for an early night but was soon woken by severe leg cramps and as I stood to ease them my stomach sent a warning that all was not well. And so began a VERY bad night of the runs and leg cramps, on occasions at the same time! In all I think I slept for an hour and by the morning things were not finished ... and to make matters worse I had forgotten to cancel my alarm, which went off at 6 am
I came to the realisation that with another tough day ahead I was not going to be able to get back on the bike today. So do I stay or do I try to move on? The thought of staying a second night in that dreadful place, more than losing the cost of the hotel in Burgos, made my mind up and with the massive help of a very sympathetic receptionist, Eva, transport by bus was arranged. I walked with the bike to the bus station (no way I could risk putting my backside onto the saddle!) where the staff were expecting me and looked after me and the bike until it was time to climb aboard a very comfortable coach to Burgos. I was surprised by how many walking wounded pilgrims were on the bus and along the route we even stopped to pick up an injured French cyclist.
So here I am, feeling pig sick after watching other cyclists making their way along the same route that I had just travelled over by bus. I have decided to check myself into this hotel for a second night to give me time to recover my strength and will not book farther ahead until I am sure that all is well.
But I must take heart - I´m safe and in a super hotel - it could have been a great deal worse. C´est la vie.
DISTANCE FOR THE DAY: 117 km by bus
TOTAL SO FAR: 1382 km by bike
