So here we are, arrived off the plane in Tampere to be met by our bus and the boys from Baton Rogue Morgue and spirited off to the venue - Henry's Pub - in Tampere, and with all our luggage successfully retreived from baggage claim!

We arrived off the plane in Tampere airport, the place was so small me and Adam walked right past baggage claim without realising it, we had to wait for Chis and Steve to get the gear (which all arrived safely, thankfully) from baggage claim. It then sank in that we had two and a half hours to wait for the bus to arrive, so we set about getting the beers in, obviously.

We went outside every now n again for a smoke and it was obvious that this place was in the middle of nowhere, the view from the plane window as we were approaching the runway even looked like we were going to land in a forest. It was getting dark, and colder.....so much colder.

After a couple of hours, I was outside and saw this huge double decker execu-bus driving round a corner in the distance....this can't be for us, surely? Eventually it finished winding its way through the car park and out jumped Tim and Dom from Baton Rogue Morgue. I could tell Dom straight away thanks to his fucking MASSIVE beard! It came down to his belt, impressive.
We loaded our gear, were shown on to the bus and introduced to the rest of the band and Hamid the driver. Now, this being Finland, shows don't start until late. We'd planned to arrive at the airport before 5pm so we could be at the venue for 6, like at an English venue. No, no, no, no, shows here don't open their doors until at least 10pm, we got told. Sweet, more time to get the beers in before we go on then!

We got to Henry's Pub in Tampere about an hour later, loaded all our gear in and got shown the 'dressing room'/cellar. I've never seen so much cock graffitti in a dressing room anywhere, check the pics below for a few examples. Once soundcheck was done we got to know the band and the driver a bit more, by getting thoroughly shitfaced with them. In our time in the cellar we learned that Dom had a collection of choppers, and he's also a tattoo artist who was once given a machine gun in payment for tattooing someone; that our driver had once seen a woman so beautiful, he declared he would eat porridge from her ass without a spoon; and that Hitler was the first real rockstar as he toured Europe in the 40s, way before the Beatles ;-)

The hours ticked by and we kept looking at our watches wondering when someone was going to suggest we actually get on with the show, it was now 10:30pm and most UK shows would be coming to an end around now so we asked the sound girl who said we should go on at 11pm. Fair enough, a late start but when in Rome, err.....Finland, etc. We ended up going on at midnight to a small but enthusiastic crowd of locals, some of which were huge. I swear at least one of their parents was a Winnabago. We noticed the crowd looking a bit bemused at one point and when we asked the BRM lads what that was all about, they said "I think you might have been a little bit loud for them". Good to see we're living up to our reputation then!
Now it was time for BRM to rock the stage and for us to get our first taste of 'em live. They definitely owned the stage and got the crowd worked up nicely, we even had one of them trying to get on the tourbus home with us, sadly she wasn't a looker....."crunchy" didn't even come close.

Once the show was over we were back on the bus bound for Porvoo where we were staying the night at Dom's. We got more drunk and wound up playing "stop Tim from jumping out of the bus" for about half an hour, I swear the guy has a death wish haha. We pulled up in Porvoo an hour or two later and immediately Tim opened the door and dived straight out on to the pavement, face first, good job we'd already stopped by then eh? We transferred to the back of Dom's 4x4 and mashed it up a hill to his house, in the dark, on a dirt track, rally style. Bedtime now as we'd all been up for 24 hours straight.
