After a quick trip round Artist Drive we stopped at the Badwater Salt Flats. The lowest place in the Western Hemisphere, so called for the pool of salt water that sits by the road. The place was named Badwater when a prospector and his thirsty mule found the salt water pool but the mule refused to drink the water.
By this time it was around 4pm but still incredibly hot (100F). Ad stayed in the car after we went down and took a few photos of us by the Badwater sign but I decided to venture out into the salt flats for a short walk. The actual sign by the roadside at Badwater is 280ft below sea level but the actual lowest point is near the middle of the salt flats (-282ft), I tried to make it that far but it was just too hot and not worth the risk seeing as I reckon I could've made it there, but probably not made it back. In the end I got about halfway and turned back. The wind blowing across the salt flats was ridiculous too, it was like being stood in front of an open fan oven.
