After failing in our attempts to gel on an overnight chicken bus (this one even had aircon! -resulting in sleeping bags being sent for at half time..), and inadvertantly bypassing Coban (spot famous for its caves and lagoons, and apparently a must see..) we found ourselves in Guatemala City (GC to its friends- a set we don't include ourselves in). A night spent in one of the dodgyiest sections, and an uneventful chicken bus (we are close to the only ppl we have met so far not to have been robbed on one of these) later, and we were in Antigua.

A lovely colonial city, with disterbingly little to do, we resorted to (on our second attempt - PS + alarm clocks (or mornings in general) do not mix!) climbing a live volcano.. OSH would've loved us climbing to withing 2m of the slowly flowing lava in less than illuminated conditions.. Followed by a bitch black scree descent, very carefully attempoted by most, who were somewhat disconcerted to see two crazy kiwis racing each other down amid whoops of excitement!

It could only get better (as it soon did) by in the middle of a cloud, our (by now strangely quite drunk) guide falling on his back in hysterics proclaiming in spanish that he had no idea where we were!

Somehow we discovered the route down, and escorted the guide with us..
