Where I stayed
Hippo Camp
What I did
Boat safari
Packed up camp in Kibale and headed off to 'Hippo Camp' in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Another breathaking place and as the name suggests, hippos were pretty common here.
Very very basic facilities here which were in all honesty, pretty grim; no hot water and so many bugs! Literally billions of midges - at night you turn on the headlight and it looks like there is a blizzard. Covered myself in deet, which I am pleased to say worked...others weren't so lucky and are covered in bites.
View over the lake was incredible and evening saw an lightning storm of epic proportions, fortunately no rain.
In the late afternoon we headed to a plush safair lodge and I enjoyed a cocktail, some blue concoction called 'hippos dream', was actually pretty scrummy. Headed down to the lake shore at 4pm and jumped on a double decked boat. Saw loads of hippos, crocs and birdlife. Main highlight was the fish eagle, saw him circlung around the lake then dive down and scooped a fish out in his massive talons. He then flew to the shore and ate the fish - managed to get some cracking photos.
A little too much sun caught today, particularly my arms...plenty of aftersun now applied. THink the deet is interfering with the sun screen I'm using, will see how it goes...
Only had a swift bottle of beer in the bar on site, place was pretty minging with all the bugs so had an early night...

Fab pickies James, I'm really enjoying your trip too, it's wonderful and I look forward to reading your bill dos. Make sure you get the recipe for the Hippo Dreams for the Alf A Rose so we can re-live, but without any itchy scratchy parts (hopefully) xxxxx
