Getting in early

Having not learnt Spanish yet (7 months after I said I would), not researched and brought a camera yet (5 months after I said I would) or completed many of the things on the 'To Do' list yet, as promised, I thought it wise to start the blog early. My time keeping, "Lamming Time", is not renowned for its punctuality. This is one of the attractions of South America where time keeping matters little. Wine, steak, incredible scenery, chance to pick up a language, wildlife and exploring a completely new continent with El are the more important attractions. We are five weeks from the off and things are beginning to feel very real, particularly the lack of weekends to fit everything in (though I might be unemployed, there is preparation for my job when I come back and buying all my clothes, learning Spanish and many of the other things I should have started on months ago to fill the week).
As an introduction to this blog, a quick preview of where we are going. We fly out on Wednesday 22nd September via Miami to Lima. This will be El's first trip on a big plane and, geekily, my first trip on a Boeing 747 so we are both excited about the travel part of the travelling. We arrive about 5am in Lima and have Hotel Espana booked for two nights. We then get to Cuzco in style on the top floor front seats of a fancy coach (I insisted on the seat choice to admire the scenery). In Cuzco I'll be doing an intensive Spanish course for a week whilst El goes sightseeing. We both are doing the Inca Trail and then our itinerary stops. We have a flight back from Lima to the UK booked on the 5th March and the rest of the time we'll fill going through Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Peru. There are things we are looking forward to on the way: a bike ride from the top of the Andes to the bottom and then a three day boat ride into the rain forest; Iguazu Falls; whale watching; penguin spotting; wine tasting; tango lessons; glacier trekking to list but a few.
That's Part 1 of our travels. I say Part 1 because I am unemployed until the 27th June 2011. As our penny pinching and hard work resulted in a lot more savings then we expected we realised we have enough money to go away for a Part 2. We plan (currently) to go to India and Nepal between late March and the end of May. This was decided yesterday so I have very little idea about what we will be doing yet, but we are very excited about this substantial post script to our original plans.
El or I may update this blog again before we go but will be updating it as often as possible to keep people updated (and jealous) whilst we are away. Once we have gone please add comments, messages and so on as this is an easy way for us to keep in touch.
