In one very long day (4am - 7pm) I had to do a bus marathon of catching 5 different minibuses in order to ge to where I wanted to be. The guidebook thought it impossible, I was just proven to be stupid but made it there in the end. One particularly low point was in Coban where I had no idea which of the 5 bus terminals there would get me to where I wanted to go so I decided to trust a taxi driver's advice to go to a place I had never heard of and wasn't on the map and change there for my next destination. An unheard of 28 people were crammed into this 15 seat minibus and I had a sliver of seat so small that my legs went quite seriously numb in no time at all, forcing me to manually pump my thigh to get some blood goin. Add to that the constant mutterings of 'gringo' and subsequent laughter wasn't the best thing. Even worse they realised I could understand them and so they switched to their local language giving me no chance at a comeback. My leg also happened to be pressed into the side of the bus by a gun carried by the man in front of me which was pretty unconfortable for more than one reason.
The town we arrived in was as sketchy as i'd imagined but fortunately I had found the rarer trustworthy Guatemalteco and hopped straight on to a bus to El Estor where I gladly spent the night.
